Our political editor Beth Rigby has been right across Lee Anderson's defection from the Tories to Reform today, and says the announcement has plenty of MPs fearing for their futures.Mr Anderson becomes Reform's first MP by switching sides, but party leader Richard Tice has made clear he wants plenty more to join him at the next general election.Beth says his anti-Tory messaging at today's news conference was particularly striking.
It marks a change from the position of Nigel Farage at the 2019 election, who didn't put any Brexit Party candidates up in seats being targeted by the Conservatives.'Reform is taking the fight to the Tory party and that will make a lot of Conservative MPs very nervous,' says Beth.The government's response today - 'almost a shrug' - has betrayed 'what's actually going on in terms of the nervousness'.
