The latest updates as the former boss of NHS England gives evidence to the COVID inquiry.

The inquiry's lawyer next turns to the decision-making progress in Number 10 and the top of government.Sir Simon Stevens explains that, as chief executive of NHS England, he would have meetings with the prime minister and others specifically about the NHS, and then they would go off to other meetings on things like lockdowns and restrictions, so he did not feed directly into those.

Pushed for his view on the decision-making process, he says: 'In respect of decisions that we needed from government on NHS capacity, sometimes decisions were taken which we didn't like but nevertheless those were the decisions.'He went on: 'I think the best example of the interface with prime ministerial decision-making that I can personally speak to was around the rollout of the vaccine program and the prime minister was very personally involved in that.
