The Texas Department of Public Safety has now started enforcing officers to weight watch themselves.
AUSTIN, Texas — A career in law enforcement is quite demanding given their sworn duty to protect the community. The physical aspects of the job accounts for a good chunk of what’s to be expected when out in the field. Now, over 200 Texas state troopers are going to have to be more mindful of their figure with the latest enforced physical requirement.
It’s a controversial policy in which, according to a report obtained by the, men with waists over 45 inches and women with waists over 35 inches have to monitor their weight loss efforts with DPS. The waistline policy began in 2019, soon being hit with a lawsuit from the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association with claims of this rule being “demeaning.” The 2020 pandemic caused delays, and DPS executed the policy in a September review of its officers.
