According to police, the victim had entered a building in the area when the suspect approached her, forced her into a bathroom and assaulted her before fleeing the scene.
Authorities are seeking the public's help in identifying and locating a man who sexually assaulted a woman in an Oakland bathroom.
The assault was reported about 11:30 a.m. on Monday in the 200 block of Grand Avenue, near the northern edge of Lake Merritt, according to the Oakland Police Department. The suspect is described as a Black man with a beard who is between 25 and 30 years-old, stands about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 140 pounds. He also has an unspecified tattoo on his left hand, and he was last seen wearing a neon yellow hat, black jacket, black T-shirt with a white design on the front, blue jeans, black sneakers with yellow stripes and a"distinctive" gold chain necklace with diamonds.
Anyone with information on the assault or the suspect is asked to contact the Oakland Police Department Special Victims Unit at 510-882-8406.
