Scots mum tells how she withdrew permission for an operation but that the surgeon carried it out anyway
Police are investigating claims that one of disgraced surgeon Sam Ejamel’s patients was operated on without her consent. And it is understood there are currently more than 80 patients’ cases being investigated by cops.
She had private medical insurance through her work so was sent to get an MRI. She took her scan results to her GP who said some of her discs were bulging out. Her insurance company matched her up with Eljamel who she understood to be “a really brilliant surgeon”. “A call was made to Eljamel and he asked me to go back and see him.” He said another MRI was necessary and the results showed another bulging disc in her back.
She called her insurance company once more and was told to return again to Eljamel. This time he told her the problem was scar tissue and said the danger in removing discs was there was a risk of a “domino effect”. “I told my husband not to not stick around to wait for surgery, just to go home. But about an hour later I thought ‘I don’t want this surgery’.
“He carried out the operation without consent. It was horrendous.” To make matters worse the surgery didn’t work.“He told me I would need a fourth surgery to really tidy everything up. By this stage I knew something wasn’t right. I just knew I didn’t want him to do a fourth surgery.”
