A number of other men arrested have since been released
In a statement issued on Tuesday night, the PSNI said detectives from the Major Investigation Team had made the arrest this evening .
DCI Caldwell was shot a number of times as he loaded footballs into the boot of his car at a sports complex on the Killyclogher Road in Omagh on February 22.The PSNI said the man detained today is aged 45 and was arrested in the Belfast area under the Terrorism Act. He has been taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite to be questioned by detectives, the PSNI added.
The statement added: “Eight men aged 72, 57, 47, 45, 43, 33 & 22 years old were also arrested in connection with the attempted murder. All eight men have been released following questioning. “A 25 year old man who was arrested in connection with the claim of responsibility made following the attempted murder of Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell has been released following questioning.
