UPDATE: Police say 15-year-old Neko Rivera was shot to death on Algon Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia on Monday afternoon.
Police are investigating after a 15-year-old boy was killed in a lunchtime shooting in Northeast Philadelphia.
On Tuesday morning, officials identified the slain child as 15-year-old Neko Rivera from North Philadelphia. Rivera was at least the 17th public school student killed in the city this academic year, the Philadelphia School District said. According to police, officers responded to the 6100 block of Algon Avenue, at about noon, where Rivera was found after he had been shot about 10 times -- at least five times in the torso and five times in the leg.Police said, Rivera was transported to a nearby hospital were he was pronounced dead at about 12:45 p.m.
