Yilin Choi, 18 of Bellevue, Washington, was found about 12 p.m. at Greenwood Lake in West Milford, according to police in Passaic County.

Choi, who was not familiar with the lake, dove into shallow water and did not immediately resurface. When police arrived, they found Choi lying on a dock, breathing but unconscious, according to a police department statement released on Monday. Emergency medical workers transported Choi to Greenwood Lake Airport, and he was flown to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson in critical condition.
Police on Monday did not provide an update on Choi’s condition, but said he was receiving additional care at the Paterson hospital. Choi is a student at New York University, and was visiting friends in the area when the incident occurred, Lt. Eric Darnsteadt, a spokesman for the West Milford Township Police Department, said on Saturday.
