Anita Pointer, one of the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters, has died at the age of 74
‘She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long,’ the surviving members of the family said
The musician was surrounded by family at her Beverly Hills home on New Year’s Eve when she died, publicist Roger Neal said. Anta’s sister Ruth, her brothers Aaron and Fritz and granddaughter Roxie McKain Pointer said in a statement: “While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her sisters June and Bonnie and at peace.
“Please respect our privacy during this period of grief and loss. Heaven is a more loving beautiful place with Anita there.”The fourth of six children, Anita and her sisters grew up singing in their dad’s church in Oakland, California – forming a band that went on to huge success in the 1970s and 1980s.Among their bigger hits were “Fire” in 1978, “He’s So Shy” in 1980, “Slow Hand” in 1981, and “Neutron Dance,” “Automatic” and “Jump” in 1983. “I’m So Excited” from 1982 remains a standard.
