A plan to protect the future of a historic pub located in one of Nottinghamshire's most picturesque villages has been put forward. The Martin's Arms on School Lane in Colston Bassett was taken over by former patron Geoff Hunter earlier this year, who, with help from the Government’s Levelling Up fund, has now submitted plans to grow the business by providing guest accommodation.
The second phase, which will be covered by a separate application, will comprise the conversion of a stables building to guest accommodation, and will be similar to a proposal submitted in 2018 which was never implemented.
The applicant explained the proposal will not only safeguard a valuable community asset, but will also protect and improve job opportunities for village residents, which are in "short supply". In a planning document, agent Zenith, on behalf of the applicant, wrote: "The proposed changes are justified by the need to ensure the safety of paying guests in the event of fire and by the need to provide ensuite facilities which meet guest expectations.
