SAN JOSE — A green downtown San Jose office tower where people could work in a garden is pushing ahead with a developer’s request to demolish a big building on the site of what could be an eye-catching highrise.
The new tower would rise next to major office projects that big-time development company Jay Paul Co. is building that will also front on Park Avenue. Now, the Westbank-led group has applied for a permit to bulldoze the aging Parkside Hall at 180 Park Ave. in San Jose to clear the development site for the Park Habitat tower, which would rise next to The Tech Interactive center.
The development would feature a cascade of gardens that would effectively enable people employed in the tower to work in a park, according to Westbank and Urban Community.Japan-based Kengo Kuma & Associates, a world-renowned architectural firm, is the project’s lead designer and architect.
