Councillors have voted against the construction of an endangered animal sanctuary complex in Nottinghamshire due to concerns over its impact on the green belt, flood risks, and traffic. The plans, which also included a themed spa, restaurant, and guest lodges, were rejected by Broxtowe Borough Council. Animal rights protestors labeled the plans a "glorified zoo".
Councillors have rejected plans to build an endangered animal sanctuary complex near a village in Nottinghamshire . Broxtowe Retreat , in Trowell , which also included plans for a themed spa , restaurant and 27 guest lodges , was voted down by Broxtowe Borough Council on Wednesday, March 13. Members of its planning committee raised concerns over its impacts on the green belt , flood risks and traffic.
Reece Oliver, who already keeps exotic animals such as lions and pumas in Strelley, said the decision showed a "lack of vision". "They will never stop me, I never give up on what I believe in," said the 31-year-old, who claimed to have spent £300,000 on the application. A group of animal rights protestors stood outside the entrance to the council office before the meeting, labelling the plans a "glorified zoo"
