League City plans $313K trail system project that would connect parks in historic district
A planned trail in League City would connect League Park, above, and Heritage Park in the city's historic district., budgeted at $313,000 for design and construction, would span several subdivisions and streets in the district and connect League and Heritage parks and to an area slated to be the Kilgore parkland area.
The city has asked the project’s consultant firm, Halff Associates, to begin preliminary discussions with Union Pacific Railroad to determine if part of the trail could run parallel to the railroad, according to Chien Wei, the city's parks director. The trail would provide access to three historic homes and one registered historic live oak. Interpretive walkways would highlight the city’s history with the help of educational signs.
During the 2017 study, residents reported wanting more accessibility to parks and pathways, city spokesperson Ashley Donde said.
