Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cory Trice Jr. is catching all the Steelers coaches eyes.
When the Pittsburgh Steelers selected cornerback Cory Trice in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, they made an upside bet that his injury history would not be a huge deal. Trice fell to the seventh round all because of that problematic background, but the Steelers took a shot on him. However, in hisTrice returned in the middle of Steelers training camp this year at full health, and ever since returning, he has done nothing but ascend.
"We kind of brought him along slow in that regard, letting him get his feet back underneath him after the surgery,” Austin said. “But he’s been continuing to grow, and he gets better every week, and so I anticipate his role as the season goes on will grow, and we’ll try to, again, try to bring him along and use him where we think he can have some success and really help us.”
Trice would have gone on Day Two or early Day Three if the injuries had not pulled him down in the draft. The Steelers seem to be reaping the benefits of Trice’s talent. In his chances starting this preseason,across from him, giving the Steelers some confidence that they might have another cornerback in that room beyond just their top two.
For now, Trice will likely come in during the team’s dime packages and be their starting dimebacker, where Austin will first throw him in. As the season picks up, that role could expand to more roles on the outside rather than just on the inside.
