Piping plover chick roaming Montrose Beach revealed to be a relative of Chicago’s beloved Monty

The Great Lakes population of piping plovers was placed on the federal endangered species list in 1986 , and in 1990 there were only 13 pairs in the region.But the birds still face challenges, including loss of habitat, and when Monty, Four additional chicks from New York state — including three nieces or nephews of Monty — were released farther north, at Illinois Beach State Park in Lake County.
