Pickleball’s price: Popular sport may cost US $377M in injuries this year
After surging 86% to 8.9 million players in 2022, according to the, UBS predicts that figure will spike to 22.3 million this year, according to Bloomberg.
The analysts reached the staggering, nine-figure forecast after examining the vast reach of the pickleball craze. In part, theytitled “Non-fatal senior pickleball and tennis-related injuries treated in United States emergency departments, 2010-2019.” Injuries such as sprains were suffered by 33.2% of picklers, followed by fractures and contusions — with wrists and lower legs at the most risk of being hurt.in the Journal of Emergency Medicine, titled “Pickleball-Related Injuries Treated in Emergency Departments,” where, again, the most common suffered were strains, sprains or fractures.
