The co-showrunner for Picard reveals the touching dedication contained inside the Spock book Picard gave Elnor as a graduation present.
Star Trek: Picard season 2 includes a sweet Spock reference as revealed in behind-the-scenes images. Starfleet captain Jean-Luc Picard is back for more epic adventures in the second season of Paramount+’s streaming series set 30 years after The Next Generation.
Season 1 of Picard of course saw Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc assembling a new crew of space adventurers to tackle a mission involving the long-dead Data’s android daughters, a mysterious Romulan spy organization and the ever-mysterious Borg. Some of season 1’s supporting characters have indeed returned for big roles in season 2, including Seven of Nine , Agnes , Rios , Elnor and Raffi , while others like the android Soji are apparently to be sidelined.

The dedication chokes me up. #StarTrek pic.twitter.com/42jszZaSWKThe very title of Spock’s book is of course a reference to the Vulcan’s famous line “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few,” a piece of wisdom that came to be overthrown as Kirk put the needs of the one – namely Spock – ahead of the needs of the many by setting out to find the supposedly-dead Vulcan on the Genesis Planet in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
Ultimately Spock’s touching dedication to Kirk is a very minor detail – so minor in fact that it didn’t even appear Star Trek: Picard itself – but it’s nevertheless a nice Easter egg that is certain to hit old school Star Trek fans right in the feels.
