PG&E pleads guilty to 84 counts of involuntary manslaughter from the 2018 Camp Fire
The country’s largest utility pleaded guilty Tuesday to 84 felony counts of involuntary manslaughter stemming from one of the many wildfires that have ravaged parts of California in recent years.
Looking directly at the photos, PG&E CEO Bill Johnson repeatedly answered, “Guilty, your honor’’ to the charges. “We want this to be impactful because this can’t go on any longer,” Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey told The Associated Press. “There is going to have to be a sea change in PG&E’s method of operation.”
But PG&E officials have said they will still have to rely on the highly unpopular preventive power shutoffs they unveiled last year under certain weather conditions, albeit on a reduced, more-tailored scale.
