The Elite League have stuck to current guidance on the wearing of neck guards
A petition has reopened after the Elite Ice Hockey League released a statement confirming it would not be mandatory for players to wear neck guards despite the death of Adam Johnson. Nottingham Panthers player Johnson, 29, died after suffering a cut to his neck during a game against Sheffield Steelers on Saturday, October 28.
The petition actually closed after the statement from the EIHA. A statement thanking those who signed it said: "Your support in achieving this has brought some welcome news in devastating circumstances."But a further update was posted on the petition, which has been signed by almost 6,000 people as of Friday . It said: ""So unfortunately the EIHL sadly have not made neck guards mandatory! The EIHA have made neck guards mandatory.
