The new devolved payment can be backdated by up to three months from the date of application.
The Scottish Government recently confirmed that a new devolved benefit is set to replace Carer’s Allowance and will launch in three council areas later this month. People in Dundee City, Perth and Kinross and the Western Isles will be able to make a new claim for Carer Support Payment from Monday, November 20.
Claims may also be backdated for more than three months from the application date in certain circumstances.The eligibility rules for Carer Support Payment follow the current guidelines for Carer’s Allowance, including the £139 earnings threshold. Similar to Adult and Child Disability Payment, existing claimants will transfer in stages from DWP to the devolved system, but no details have been released on when this will begin.
