Social media users have been left horrified after discovering the seemingly innocent tale of Little Bo-Beep actually has a far more sinister meaning
behind it. The well known nursery rhyme goes: "Little Bo-Peep has lost her sheep, / And can’t tell where to find them."
While many of us are familiar with the famous first verse of the rhyme, it appears not everyone has read the disturbing lyrics in full. The full nursery rhyme reads:Leave them alone, and they'll come home,And dreamt she heard them bleating;Then up she took her little crook,For they’d left their tails behind them.
Dr Tearle said: "As is the case with many famous nursery rhymes, the precise origins of 'Little Bo-Peep' are shrouded in mystery, and speculation concerning the 'true' meaning of the rhyme has not been lacking."
