One property has been closed entirely

People causing misery in a Leigh community have been banned from four properties which became hives of drug-taking and anti-social behaviour. Closure orders have been issued for the properties on Cecil Street and Siddow Common as part of a drive to stamp out anti-social behaviour.

Some of the properties in question had been the homes of vulnerable, elderly people, who were unable to control those coming and going. Inspector Sam Davies, of GMP’s Wigan Division, said: “Whilst many view anti-social behaviour as a low level matter, it is important to recognise the serious, detrimental impact it can generate within our communities.

To combat this, it launched a 'joint approach' to tackling the problem with Wigan Council earlier this year. This included obtaining statements from residents who were affected by the behaviour and reviewing calls made to the police, intelligence and reports made to the council.
