Emergency services were called to the scene of the one-vehicle accident on the A710 at Islesteps around 11.55am on Thursday.
Police said the pensioner’s black Land Rover Discovery Sport had left the roadway and he was found unresponsive inside.
Sergeant Neil Moffat from Road Policing said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who died and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
