In a staunch reproval of her rival candidates in the race for No 10, Ms Mordaunt said her colleagues were “very angry and upset that this is how the leadership contest is being dragged down”. “Without criticising her personally, I think it’s right that everyone on their record is scrutinised.” Nadine Dorries, the Culture Secretary, said earlier this week that “in terms of attacks on candidates, it’s going to be a long, hot summer.”
Most of the remaining candidates have painted themselves as a clean break from Boris Johnson’s premiership and insisted that their election to the top office would see a return to values and principles.
