Pennsylvania American Water issued a mandatory water conservation order Tuesday for approximately 42,000 customers in its Mechanicsburg water system.This includes parts of the following areas:Silver Spring TownshipHampden TownshipLower Allen TownshipLemoyneWormleysburgEast Pennsboro TownshipNew CumberlandFairview TownshipShiremanstownCamp HillNewberry TownshipCustomers are asked to temporarily limit their water use to essential purposes only, with a targeted use reduction between 10-15%.
The conservation order follows what Pennsylvania American Water is calling an 'unexpected incident' that affected its Silver Spring Water Treatment Plant. The company said it's working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.Pennsylvania American Water said it has increased production at its West Shore Water Treatment Plant, which also serves the Mechanicsburg water system, and opened an emergency interconnection with a neighboring water system.
