SF Giants score 13 runs in win against Philadelphia Phillies
SAN FRANCISCO — Losers of seven straight, slipped deep out of the postseason frame and kicked with news they’d lose baseman Brandon Belt for the rest of the season, the Giants needed something to cheer about.
Pederson’s three-run home run off Kyle Gibson splashed into McCovey Cove, his second splash hit homer in three days that came off the bat at 108 mph. His 21st home run of the year forced Gibson out of the game with just one out in the second, threw the game into the hands of a shakier Phillies bullpen and capped a five-RBI game for Pederson before the sun set.
Bouncing back from a few injuries, Pederson was rode a 36-day homer-less streak until finally snapping it on Aug. 19. Since then he’s 13-for-his-last-30 with four home runs. “I thought it was notable how selective our offense was today,” Giants manager Gabe Kapler said. “Really patient and locked in. We talked about how important September is to be focused and there’s a lot to play for. You could tell players were especially motivated to come out and play today.”
