It's official. Peacemaker is now the best-reviewed DCEU property to date, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
Peacemaker is now the best-reviewed entry in the entire DCEU canon. The spin-off series of the 2021 film The Suicide Squad follows Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker , as he teams up with a new black ops organization to take down a villainous threat known as Butterflies. The series premiered the first three episodes on HBO Max on January 13 and will continue to run a new episode every Thursday until the series wraps up on February 17.
The series has received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike since it premiered, with people like Kevin Smith and Goosebumps author R.L. Stine giving their praise for the series on social media. The show's opening credits, which feature the cast dancing to"Do You Wanna Taste It" by Wig Wam, has even become somewhat of a viral sensation. Showrunner James Gunn has teased the series could go on for more seasons, and based on the critical reaction to the series, Warner Bros.
Even compared against DC properties that aren't in the DCEU, the show's performance is impressive. Peacemaker ranks number third behind only Doom Patrol with 97% and Watchmen with 96%. All three of the top-rated DC television series are HBO-related series, suggesting a promising result for other upcoming series the network has planned, including various shows focused on various Green Lanterns, John Constantine, and Madame Xanadu.
While the choice to spin off a character as obscure as Peacemaker seemed like an odd one for the DCEU, made even more questionable after The Suicide Squad underperformed at the box office, it appears to have paid off. The DCEU has reinvented itself drastically since the debacle of the Justice League reshoots with a variety of projects that showcase very different, unique voices from creators highlighting a batch of new characters and ideas from the vast catalog of the DC Universe.
