Paul Quinn College surprised more than 400 students from Fort Worth high schools Thursday with college acceptance letters for themselves and two family...
The Historically Black College wants to reimagine the higher education admissions process by targeting multiple generations.
“Knowing that I have a school that I can come to where people are just working and advocating for me just as hard as people in my house makes me feel really good,” Poland said.“A lot of people are discouraged about going to college because of just different situations — not having family or not having the funds — and this is a gateway opportunity for them,” Poland said.
Students from the five schools cheered, danced and celebrated as Paul Quinn President Michael J. Sorrell broke the news of their admission. Through a partnership with Fort Worth ISD, leaders at the Historically Black College want to reimagine the admissions process for higher education in a way that eradicates intergenerational poverty, Sorrell said.
