East Midlands Airport has seen a 21% increase in passenger numbers compared to last year, with 2.7 million passengers already travelling through the airport this year. The managing director expects a further 1.5 million passengers for the rest of the year. The airport plans to invest over £120 million in improving passenger facilities, including faster security processes and enhanced cargo operator facilities.

East Midlands Airport's boss says passenger confidence has returned as numbers come close to topping what they were before the coronavirus pandemic. Site officials say 2.7 million passengers have travelled through the airport so far this year, an increase of 21% on last year.

"It reflects the fact we offer people an effortless travel experience - one that we know people are prepared to travel from across the Midlands and beyond for... We're an airport that's small enough to care, with our great staff providing a warm welcome and a hassle-free start to people's holidays."With flights to 60 European destinations, the airport is planning an investment of more than £120 million in improving passenger facilities over the next five years.
