The organization is experiencing a severe shortage ahead of a Dinner in the Park event annually to distribute meals to people experiencing poverty.

Union Station Homeless Services is in desperate need for frozen turkeys due to a nationwide shortage and rising prices, which has prompted nonprofit leaders to ask for the public’s help.

Kitchen Supervisor Evelyn Gonzalez sets up turkeys to be carved on Friday, November 19, 2021 for Union Station Homeless Services Thanksgiving Dinner in the Park at the Pasadena Convention Center’s Centerplate kitchen. Centerplate is cooking 250 turkeys to serve 4,500 people for Union Station, which will be distributing prepared meals in lieu of the traditional park dinner due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I have never seen the need so dire. We only have 7 of the 450 turkeys we need,” said David Sensente Sr., a 20-year employee of Union Station Homeless Services.
