Strong storms possible late Wednesday; likely to intensify Thursday morning

A tornado watch has been issued for more than a dozen North Texas counties ahead of severe storms expected Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. for 14 Texas counties and parts of Oklahoma, the weather service said. The affected counties include: Archer, Clay, Cooke, Denton, Eastland, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Stephens, Wichita, Wise and Young.
Brief rain during the afternoon may intensify late Wednesday ahead of a cold front, according to the weather service. High winds and large hail may accompany these strong storm clusters, the weather service said.KXAS-TV meteorologist Grant Johnston saidNBC5′s forecast said widespread coverage for the morning storms will be about 9 a.m. Hail and damaging winds — as well as tornadoes in East Texas — could happen with the morning round of storms, according to the weather service.
The weekend will be dry but hot. Temperatures are likely to reach the upper 90s, the weather service said, and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas is bracing for the heat wave’s potential strain on the state’s power grid.
