YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A Parma Heights man is facing a possible life sentence after he was convicted on multiple charges for an overdose death in 2020 in Middleburg Heights. A federal jury last week found Marcus Sanders, 24, guilty of distributing fentanyl that led to the death of an individual and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, heroin, N-Butyl Pentylone, cocaine and marijuana, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio. The verdict came after a four-day trial in front of Judge Benita Pearson in Youngstown.
In May 2020, Middleburg Heights police were called to a residence for a suspected overdose, prosecutors say. The person died after being taken to a hospital by emergency workers. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the victim died of acute intoxication by fentanyl and diphenhydramine.
Investigators arrested Sanders after learning he had given the victim fentanyl, leading to the fatal overdose, prosecutors say. During a search of Sanders’ home, officers found fentanyl, N-Butyl Pentylone, heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
