NASA’s Parker Solar Probe has successfully passed through a powerful solar explosion near the Sun, making it the first ever spacecraft to do so.

The Parker Solar Probe was 5.7 million miles away from the solar surface and yet was able to detect the CME occurrence and pass through it. This allowed the scientists to gather valuable data on the solar phenomenon, which no other spacecraft has been able to accomplish to date.

Consequently, the spacecraft managed to spend roughly two days observing the CME event. It offered physicists a unique opportunity to view these celestial occurrences and a chance to examine them during their initial stages of evolution.Nour Raouafi, the Parker Solar Probe project scientist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, built the spacecraft and is presently managing and operating the mission.

Additionally, the event was fortunately detected on time, as scientists believe that a late realization could have led to disabled communications systems and generated continent-wide blackouts.systems engineer at APL, said that despite the intensity of the shock wave, the spacecraft was unshaken thanks to it being equipped with a heat shield, radiators, and thermal protection system, which ensured the Probe’s stable temperatures.

Now, the study’s data has helped the team establish a timeline of events and Parker’s position during the celestial occurrence by comparing measurements collected within the CME with those gathered outside it, including imagery taken by the Sun Earth Connection Coronal and Heliospheric Investigation instrument on NASA’s STEREO spacecraft, John Hopkin said.
