Paramount+ follows up its controversial move to cancel and remove four original series by adding 22 more movie and TV titles to the purge list.

Paramount+ has just removed even more series and movies from its service. The relatively young streaming platform originally debuted in 2014 as CBS All Access before rebranding as Paramount+ in 2021. Last week, ahead of its impending merger with Showtime, the streamer canceled four of their original exclusive series - Star Trek: Prodigy, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, The Game, and Queen of the Universe - with plans set to remove them all from streaming entirely.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Today, Deadline reports that Paramount+ is removing 22 more titles from its roster, including many exclusive originals. This includes the series Inside Amy Schumer, From Cradle to Stage, Ghislaine: Partner in Crime, and Kevin Williamson's Tell Me a Story along with the movies Fantasy Football and Snow Day.

Paramount+ Isn't the Only Streaming Service That Has Recently Removed Originals While many of the titles that were removed from Paramount+ were lesser-known projects, the removal of Inside Amy Schumer particularly stands out. The comedy series was resurrected by the platform after six years off the air and was submitted for Emmy consideration.

Paramount+ is not acting alone, however. The streamer is falling in line with a recent trend for streaming services to refocus on profits over their own catalogs. The removal of some lesser-performing or pricier titles saves companies money on licensing fees and residual payments even if the optics of these decisions are potentially damaging.

Paramount+'s purge comes in the wake of others that kicked off when HBO Max and Discovery+ merged into Max, preceded by the removal of more than 87 titles including the sci-fi epic Westworld. Disney+ recently removed numerous titles including their fantasy series Willow, just five months after season 1 concluded. It remains to be seen, but as the streaming landscape grows shakier, even more purges could be coming in the future from other platforms.
