Lewis Wilson and two accomplices pounced on Robert Meikle shortly after he left a shop in the Renfrewshire town. He suffered five horror wounds consistent with being hit by a machete-type weapon.

Wilson appeared via video link today to be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow. He had pleaded guilty in February to a charge of attempted murder. As a result, Wilson - who had been on two bail orders at the time - will be supervised for a further three years when he is freed.
