Yu Darvish went two and spun 14 shutout innings last week
In a decade in the majors, Yu Darvish had never taken home player of the week honors.The 36-year-old veteran won both of his starts in convincing fashion last week to earn NL honors, striking out 15 over 14 shutout innings to keep the Padres within grasp of a playoff spot.Darvish scattered three hits and just one walk in dismissing the Mariners and Diamondbacks, both on the road.Darvish joins Manny Machado as the Padres’ only winners this year.
Darvish’s 15 wins are one shy of the career high he set as a rookie in 2012. He has a 3.05 ERA, 183 strikeouts and a 0.93 WHIP in 28 starts this year.
