With Mike Clevinger and Adrian Morjeon on COVID injured list, Padres call up Ray Kerr, Reiss Knehr and Brent Rooker before doubleheader against the Rockies
pitchers Mike Clevinger and Adrian Morejon were placed on the COVID injured list ahead of the twin bill against the Rockies at Petco Park.
Clevinger was scheduled to start the 1:10 p.m. game but was scratched late Friday night, pushing Nick Martinez up a day. Morejonand was viewed as vital coverage as the Padres began a stretch of 18 games in 17 days. Instead the Padres called up left-hander Ray Kerr and right-hander Reiss Knehr from Triple-A El Paso to replace Clevinger and Morejon. Outfielder Brent Rooker was also recalled as the 27Kerr is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA, 20 strikeouts and a 1.64 WHIP in El Paso’s bullpen. He allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings in his previous stints this year with the Padres.
Knehr, who debuted last year with the Padres, is 3-4 with a 7.84 ERA, 52 strikeouts and a 1.68 WHIP in 51 2/3 innings with El Paso.This will be Rooker’s second stint with the Padres, although he did not appear in a game the first time. He was hitting .236/.362/.538 with nine homers and 24 RBIs in 29 games with El Paso.
