Padres reliever Scott Barlow had been rolling until stumbling in his second inning of work on Saturday against the Cardinals
Scott Barlow hopped off the mound in a heap of hair and emotion after catching Tommy Edman looking at the slider he landed on the outside corner to end the 10The 30-year-old reliever has learned, through trial and error, how to rein it back in fairly quickly. His wits were certainly about him when pitching coach Ruben Niebla asked him if he had another inning in him.“I’m someone that always wants to be out there pitching,” Barlow said.
While he endured a rocky stretch after arriving from Kansas City at the trade deadline, Barlow had allowed one run in 20 innings until Saturday, striking out 23 batters against six walks while holding hitters to a .177/.263/.191 batting line.Since the trade deadline, Barlow leads all Padres relievers with 26 1/3 innings.
