Catcher Austin Nola leaves Sunday's game after a runaway pitch hit him in nose, bringing the Padres' catching depth into question as opening day looms
Less than two weeks form the start of the season, he certainly hopes he doesn’t have to spend much time pondering it.
“I can’t imagine it’s not broken,” Melvin said of Nola’s nose. “Last I heard they were trying to stop the bleeding. He was doing OK, but like I said I can’t imagine it’s not broken when it hit him square in the nose.” Any amount of time missed by the Padres’ primary catcher would be a huge blow to the team, as the 24-year-old Campusano has just 153 innings behind the plate in the majors and the 29-year-old Sullivan has yet to make his MLB debut and just returned from a lengthy absence with Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic.
