San Antonio businesswoman’s botanical products company wants to put some sparkle in your armpits

. Made with natural ingredients such as sunflower oil and shea butter, and scented with lavender and ylang ylang essential oils, it is one of the first glittery deoderants to hit the market.

As with nearly all her company’s products — In the Weeds also sells candles, lotions, lip balms, face scrubs and creams, among other things — she makes the deodorant herself in the live-work unit where she resides on the near West Side. She spent about three years perfecting the recipe, testing various iterations on herself.

A native of McAllen, she earned a bachelor’s in interior design from Texas State University and a license in esthetics from Spa Professional Academy. While studying at the academy, she began developing her first product, Dollface Face Scrub & Mask. After injuring her back while working at a furniture store, she came to rely on the income she made selling her botanical products.

I know that some people are gonna probably be like, “Girl, you’re almost 40, why are you putting glitter in your armpits?” But I’m kind of like, “Why not?” Like, life is short? Why do you have to always live by these norms? That’s definitely something that I’ve learned from COVID — life is too short to be around jerks. You only have one life, so just make the best of it.Yes, but it hasn’t been out too long. A lot of my customers are really excited about it.
