More than £23million of taxpayers' money has been spent on the delayed York Street Interchange project before construction work has even started. The project was first commissioned in 2007 and aims to improve traffic flow at the intersection of the Westlink, M2, and M3 in Belfast, which is one of the busiest road junctions in Northern Ireland.

In response to a question from North Belfast DUP MLA Phillip Brett regarding how much money has been spent on the scheme so far, the Infrastructure Minister said a total of £23.7 million has been spent, up until March 31, 2023. For the 2023/24 financial year, a further £1 million has been allocated to the scheme
