Police were called after two people - and another dog - were injured. The attacking dog was shot dead by armed officers

Police have shot dead a dog following an attack which left two people injured. The incident happened in the Sowood area of Halifax, West Yorkshire, on Monday night.

Officers were called to reports of a dog attack just before 6pm, with the dog's owner one of the people reportedly injured. Another person was also reported to be injured, as was another dog in the Stainland Road area. West Yorkshire Police said officers had tried to restrain the dog but these had proved unsuccessful before it was shot dead at the scene. The two injured people were taken to hospital with minor injuries and the injured dog was taken to a vet. A woman has been arrested, the Mirror reports.

A force spokesperson said: "Attempts to restrain the dog were unsuccessful and it was destroyed by armed officers who attended the scene. Both injured parties were taken to hospital with minor injuries and the injured dog was taken to be seen by a vet. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of what happened.

"A woman has been arrested in connection with the incident." Anyone with information that could aid the investigation into this incident is asked to contact police, quoting reference 1366 of 6/11.
