After three decades in theater, film and television, the actor has his first leading role in a Hollywood tentpole releaseDirector Christopher Nolan has long used huge film cameras to capture action and landscapes in spectacular detail for the biggest screens. For “Oppenheimer,” he needed to focus those cameras on the face of actor Cillian Murphy to capture the interior action within one of history’s most consequential minds.
“To me the science, the physics, is sort of background to his humanity and the incredible moral dilemmas he found himself in throughout his life,” Murphy said. “What happens to the human psyche when it’s under pressure? I find that really interesting.”
