Bernie Sanders trailed Hillary Clinton by more than 20 points in polls, then overtook her to win the March Democratic primary by 1.5 points. FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver called it “one of the greatest polling errors in primary history.” In November Donald Trump beat Mrs. Clinton by 0.23 point—the narrowest margin in any state—and claimed Michigan for the GOP for the first time since 1988.
