La elección de la senadora centrista Xóchitl Gálvez como candidata oficial de la coalición opositora que desafiará al partido populista gobernante Morena en las elecciones de 2024 es una gran noticia para México.
DeSantis, el gobernador de la Florida y segundo en las encuestas republicanas detrás del expresidente Donald Trump, quien no participó en el debate, dijo que enviaría tropas a México el “primer día” de su mandato.
“Nunca me ha dado miedo nada en la vida”, me dijo Gálvez. ”Soy una mujer a quien nadie le ha regalado nada,” respondió. Una nueva encuesta del diario Reforma muestra que si las elecciones se celebraran hoy, Sheinbaum le ganaría a Gálvez por un 46% al 36% de los votos, y un 23% de los encuestados no respondió.
Gálvez también ha sido criticada por el hecho de que el Frente Amplio opositor la nombró candidata días antes de terminar la consulta popular interna de la oposición, lo que dio lugar a acusaciones de que fue una decisión cupular.
