Class A's top hero returns from certain death.
The character of Amai Mask in One-Punch Man may be well-loved in-universe, but he's given readers a very different impression due to his aggressive personality and dismissiveness towards Saitama and other more popular characters. Still, his brutal death back in chapter 139 at the hands of Fuhrer Ugly felt a bit too cruel towards a character who was still nominally a hero, seeing as he was ripped in half in a fit of jealousy over his looks.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Amai Mask first appeared early on as the top hero in class A, doing interviews and appearing before an adoring public who loved him largely for his looks. The darker side of the character appeared when he confronted Genos, revealing that Amai Mask sees himself as the gatekeeper for class S, and didn't appreciate Genos shooting straight to the top when he registered as a hero.
One-Punch Man Hints Amai Mask Can Regenerate Chapter 157 mysteriously opens with Amai Mask waking up in one piece, despite how clearly he was shown to have been bisected previously. His face was also beaten in by Fuhrer Ugly's "face-destroying punch," yet it's equally intact. When he gets up, no one is around except for a man he doesn't recognize, who is eventually revealed to be a slimmed-down version of the class S hero, Pig God.
Amai Mask's Regeneration is a Unique Ability in One-Punch Man Since only a few hours passed at most between chapter 139 and 157, it seems likely that Amai Mask has some kind of superpowered regeneration ability, which would be highly unique among One-Punch Man's heroes. The only other character with such an ability is Zombieman, who is explicitly the result of an experiment at the House of Evolution, and isn't considered fully human by some as a result.
It's not clear whether the other heroes were aware of Amai Mask's apparent death or not; Zombieman and Child Emperor were close enough that they might have witnessed it happening, but no one is shown reacting to it. How One-Punch Man's class S heroes will react when they find out could be quite interesting, but fans will have to wait for future chapters of One-Punch Man to find out.
