Chioma and Chloe pay a visit to Tory Burch at her design studio in Manhattan, where they see the new collection up close.
’s NYFW Shark Week, Chioma and I took a trip to Tory Burch’s Flatiron headquarters to speak to the designer about her, which was presented on Monday evening at the Gilder Center, the epic new addition to the American Museum of Natural History, designed by Jeanne Gang.
In her design studio, Tory gave us a tour of the collection, from its retro-futurist silhouettes to the tinkling bells accenting the skirts and hairnets. Tory chatted with us about her transition from serving as CEO to purely designing the clothes after handing the business reins over to her husband, fashion veteran Pierre-Yves Roussel.
It’s always a treat to see looks up close and feel the fabrics, but this was a particularly fun visit. The collection is wonderfully tactile, between the garments decorated with tiny, stamen-inspired tassels, and the modern Madame Grès pleats and draping on miniskirts. Tory is also her own best model, and after seeing her in her fall collection , I wanted it all! For her, that is exactly the point: to design clothes that women actually want to wear and feel good in.
