Gov. Greg Abbott is pressing forward with his plan to bus migrants out of the state despite questions about his legal authority to do so.At a news conference Wednesday, Abbott said his latest plans for the border were because the Biden administration has forced Texas’ hand when it comes to stopping thousands of migrants from crossing the border every day.
Many business leaders, concerned about hurting relations with Abbott because Mexico is Texas’ top trading partner, were not ready to talk about how the other part of Abbott’s latest plan — safety inspections for all commercial vehicles crossing the border — might slow crossings and harm business. But they said they were perplexed by the idea of busing migrants who would have been turned away under Title 42 right up to D.C.
