The Canadian musician’s sixth album explores grief, motherhood, and the winding road to happiness in her most assured outing yet.
Around this time two years ago, Leslie Feist found herself at a crossroads. The Canadian singer-songwriter had recently undergone a series of seismic life changes: moving from her long-time base of Toronto to Los Angeles, adopting her daughter in 2019, and, of course, grappling with the devastating effect of the pandemic on her livelihood as a musician.
From the rickety, rambunctious opening track “In Lightning,” which seeks to capture the revelatory feeling of setting one’s intention to be joyful, to the twinkling, reflective beauty ofin which you can hear every slide of her fingers on the guitar strings and the almost-imperceptible crack in her voice as she sings of fading romantic love.

Canadian academic convicted in 1980 Paris synagogue bombingA Paris court has convicted a Lebanese-Canadian academic in absentia on terrorism charges over a bombing outside a Paris synagogue in 1980 that killed four and wounded 46. The court also sentenced Hassan Diab to life in prison on Friday, and issued an arrest warrant for him after a trial that marked the culmination of decades of investigation. Diab lives in Ottawa, Canada and denies wrongdoing. His lawyers say he was in Lebanon at the time of the attack and is a victim of mistaken identity. French authorities accuse Diab of planting the bomb outside the synagogue where 320 worshipers had gathered to mark the end of a Jewish holiday on Oct. 3, 1980.
