Police Scotland has confirmed they received hate crime reports in connection with this afternoon's Old Firm clash at Ibrox.

Police Scotland has confirmed they received hate crime reports in connection with this afternoon's Old Firm clash at Ibrox. The Sunday Mail revealed this morning that the force has been bracing itself for an influx of reports surrounding the SPFL Premiership clash.

Under the Hate Crime and Public Order Act , anyone who feels a crime has been committed can make a complaint anonymously through an online portal and don’t have to speak directly to the police. Of the 8,000 reports made by Saturday, the force had logged less than 350 as offences to be investigated under the HCPOA. A leading advocate suggested that the huge rivalry between the fans meant it was "highly likely" cops would see a surge in complaints.

Police Scotland’s reporting system, named Storm, had 329 calls and emails by the end of last week that were considered as potential offences under the HCPOA code. A senior police source confirmed 85 of those had been made anonymously. Rangers grabbed an injury time equaliser through Rabbi Matondo to see the game end 3-3. Celtic had been 2-0 up at half time, thanks to a goal after 30 seconds from Daizen Maeda and a dinked penalty, awarded after a VAR check, from Matt O'Reilly.
